Discipline Committee Notice: June 10, 2025

A meeting of the Discipline Committee of the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers was held on June 10, 2025, to hear and determine a complaint against a member.

 

More specifically, the member is alleged of having failed to comply with the employer’s standards and directives concerning documentation and failing to record clinical notes in several clinical files.

 

By voluntary submission, the member made the following admissions of professional misconduct:

a) they admitted having failed in their ethical duties;

b) they admitted that they had not complied with standards and directives of their workplace with regard to record keeping and documentation;

c) they recognized that social workers have a responsibility to the client for the maintaining of a client record and to the agency to maintain the records. 

d) they recognized that they have a professional and personal responsibility to ensure that they are emotionally fit to practise the profession; and

e) they agreed that disciplinary sanctions were appropriate.

 

Having determined that the member was guilty of professional misconduct, the Discipline Committee imposed the following disciplinary sanctions:

a. a fine of 500.00 $ ;

b. a continuing education assignment on documentation as determined by the Registrar ;

c. a written reprimand to be placed in the member’s personnel file for a period of five years; and 

d. publication of a summary of the proceeding without names for the education of membership.
