Trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder) and Excoriation Disorders (Skin Picking Disorder) are included in the obsessive-compulsive related disorder section of the DSM-5 and are present in about 1-2% of the population. They are more common in females, often co-morbid with other conditions. They are often undetected. The treatment of these disorders is best through an experiential CBT approach. However, the current protocols do not specify approaches to all the clinical aspects of these conditions. Educational resources and training for the treatment of these disorders are not readily available.

This workshop is an ‘all you wanted to know’ offering to plan comprehensive and effective treatments for these conditions. Dr. Rao will cover recognition, diagnosis, co-morbidity, medication and psychological treatments. The focus will be on formulating and implementing an experiential CBT treatment plan. Role plays, case examples of successful treatments, common pitfalls will all be covered in the presentation. You will get to practice the required skills in the workshop and walk away with a structured outline to treat these conditions effectively.

Course attendees will receive a certificate of attendance from the Dept of Psychiatry, University of Ottawa.
