What level of education do I need to be a member with the NBASW?

Student Members: Students who are residents of Canada and are currently enrolled in a BSW or MSW Accredited Social Work Program can apply for Student Membership.

Temporary Authorized, Practicing, and Reinstated Members: The minimum education requirement is a BSW or MSW Accredited Social Work Program. Please click here to apply to be a Temporary Authorized Membership; click here to apply to be a Practicing Member; and click here to apply for reinstatement.

For applicants who earned their degree in the United States, the first step is to ensure your social work education is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

For applicants who earned their degree outside Canada and the United States, the first step is to have your foreign social work credentials evaluated by the Canadian Association of Social Workers. You can access information about this process here. The CASW will guide you through the evaluation process of your credentials. Once the evaluation process of your foreign credentials is complete, and it indicates that your education is equivalent to a Canadian Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work, you can proceed to apply to the NBASW as a Practicing Member.

I am a Social Service Worker moving to NB. Am I eligible for membership with the NBASW?

The NBASW is the regulatory body and professional association for the profession of social work in New Brunswick. At this time, there is no regulatory body for social service workers in New Brunswick. If you do not have a Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Worker or are not currently a Registered Social Worker in another jurisdiction, you would not be eligible for membership with the NBASW.
